The CMX-3000 reads the track volume level and reproduces the data as a Wave display, which is patented by Pioneer. A visual mapping of the landscape of each track is represented in the display panel, denoting the highs and lows, allowing the DJ to quickly find breaks in the tracks to guarantee accurate cueing. There is a 1000 CD internal memory, where the DJ can store three cue and loop points per CD, as well as Wave data for up to 20 tracks per CD. The stored data can also be copied to other CMX-3000 CD players. When the 1000 CD capacity is reached, the CMX-3000 automatically deletes the CD information based on the amount of usage. The CMX-3000 has been equipped with a high-quality Scratch Mode, which allows scratching, scratch cueing and backspinning. The new jog dial measures 11 cm and is now a two-piece design to allow greater visibility of the display. A new dot matrix display delivers clearer and brighter status information. I’ve owned one of these for a few months and recorded over 100 CD’s on it. Things I like most about it are: quality of recorded audio, general ease of use, synchro recording features, CD-Text facility with keyboard input and sample rate conversion for recording from other digital sources like DAT. The user manual is very well written and easy to understand.

There are some minor annoyances which may not matter to you: the keyboard input (on mine and 2 other machines I’ve tried, with a variety of keyboards) is patchy (misses keystrokes, gets stuck on upper case, etc) and the machine will not copy CD-Text from one disc to another (a really basic omission).

The changer mechanism can be a bit awkward to use (disc 3 sits deeep in the tray and is fiddly to get out), and it’s rather slow to change discs – these are not faults, just things to be aware of.

Overall, I’m happy with the Pioneer, especially when compared to other machines I looked at, but it wouldn’t have taken much extra effort for Pioneer to produce a machine that was “excellent” and not just “very good”.

this cd burner is a piece of junk please do not buy or you will be burned by this product,the tray always makes a clicking sound and will not work most of the time.

I started with a couple Philips burner decks and they were horrible, but that’s another story. I demanded my money back from the Philips purchase and opted for the 839. I record all the time and this thing just keeps ticking. It even fixed some burns that the Philips screwed up! I got the extended warranty, which I would recommend on any device like this. So far the things that have gone wrong have been relatively minor: 1) sometimes when I’m finalizing a disc and it gets to 00:00, the disc just keeps spinning. I need to shut the unit off and turn it back on, but the burn is fine. 2) sometimes the remote will just stop responding, which is necessary for functions such as programming! Both these problems are intermittent and I’ve sent the unit out for repair, but of course they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I eventually got a new remote, which fixed that issue.

UPDATE: well, it’s December 2007 and I’m still burning like crazy…she just keeps on ticking!

Keep the music playing with Pioneer’s PD-F407 25-disc CD player. The slot-loading changer helps you organize and get creative about how you listen. In addition to its standard features (play, repeat, 32-track programming), the PD-F407 has a few that are more unusual–and perfect for a CD jukebox. “Best play” is a one-touch trick that lets you commit any 15 tracks to the PD-F407’s memory. Just hit the BEST button while a track is playing and the player will automatically store that track in memory. Later, on hitting “best play,” the unit will play back all 15 tracks in sequence. Another cool feature is “previous-disc scan,” which simply plays the opening ten seconds of the last 15 discs played. The PD-F407 also lets you create up to 3 custom files, or groups, with no limit to the number of CDs in each file. This is a terrific way to file discs by genre or by favorite artist. When you hit play after having hit stop or turned the unit off, it will begin playing the last disc before shutdown.
